I recived (received) your letter this after noon
and was glad to hear from you
and the reast (rest) of the foalks (folks) and
much more glad to hear that my
boy is better I hope you
will
stick to him till he gets well
for he wants care not as sone (soon) as
he is a little better let him take
care of him self ofr
then is jest (just) the
time that he wants care you say
that

married what

do you
mean and hoe (who) is this
mary (Mary)
an I dont no (know) eather (either) of them I
dont think you can mean my
brother

of the rigment (regiment) that Charles (Stannard, Charles)
is in and the company and what
is it for I want to right (write) to
him you say that John (Stannard, John C.) is in
george town (Georgetown) (Georgetown, District of Columbia) that is within 7
miles of me but he cant get
hear (here) nor I cant get their (there) now
not as longue (long) as this panic lasts
he may be their (there) and he may be
some whare (where) els (else) they shift the troops
from one plase (place) to a nother (another) night
and day they say that Jackson (Jackson, Stonewall (General))
has crossed the river over into
mairland (Maryland) (Maryland) near harber ferry (Harpers Ferry) (Harpers Ferry, West Virginia) their (there)
is quite an excitement all over the
cuntery (country) hear (here) we expected that
we sould (should) hafter (have to) leave this plase (place)
a few days a go but they are filling
up this hospital a gane (again) if you right (write)
to John (Stannard, John C.) tell him to right (write) to me
so I will no (know) whare (where) he is I should
like to have you go up and look out
of the cupola and see the troops
that is in camp all a round hear (here)
you take a spy glass and look for
seven miles and you cant see nothing
but camps as soon as this panic is
over we will get our pay and then
I will send you some and when
I get my pay I shall send for a box
of somthing (something) to eat and to drink
when I send for it I want you
to tell [mant?] to send me a bottle
of somthing (something) that is good and some
of the rest of them may send one
if they are a mienter (mind to) I will tell you

a letter from Cyrus (Cyrus) the other day
he said that Ira (Ira) had inlisted (enlisted) and
Tucker Simpson (Simpson, Tucker) and Uncle reem
warde (Warde, Reem) and uncle luke (Luke (Uncle)) s boys had
inlisted (enlisted) is Charles (Charles) a prvat (private) or what
is he or is he a maried (married) mand I cant
think he is a maried (married) man no never
whare (where) is Sarah (Stannard, Sarah M.) is she to work
out or is she dead that she
dont answer that letter that I rote (wrote)
hear (here) it is very sickly hear (here) we
burry (bury) from one to two a day hear (here)
their (there) was two cases of the small pox
come hear (here) to day what will come
next you tell I have had noboddy (nobody)
to take care of this last weak (week) I
have cleand (cleaned) my rome (room) and white wash
them if you could see the sick
mean (men) that is hear (here) and elswhare (elsewhere) you
would think that they was enuff (enough)
to put down this rebilion (rebellion) we are
not taken yet (nor I hant (haven't) gave up no
