I thout (thought) that I would right (write) a
few lines to let you know what
I have hard a bout my rigment (regiment)
they was in this last fight and
got cut all to pecies (pieces) I see two
out of the rigment (regiment) and they say
that their (there) is not over one hundred
and fiftey (fifty) left of them and ther (their)
boys say that Charles fenton (Fenton, Charles) is
kild (killed) and Joe (Joe) is one of the misen (missing)
at least they have not ether (either) of them
been seen sens (since)  last Satterday Saturday that
is the day that our rigment (regiment) got
cut up so the hole (whole)  arme (army) is coming
back to thes (these)  foarts (forts)  their (there) is a good
menny (many) of my rigment (regiment) wounded
but have not come in yet the

holding them for to check the wagon
train they will let them go after

that I ever see in my life yet
I think I shall see some fiting (fighting)
yet right hear (here) if nothing happens
to me all of mc clelen (McClellan, George Brinton (General))   armey (army) is
comming (coming) back hear (here) to night you
cant get a longue (long) the roads a foot
hardley (hardly)  their (there) will be more nues (news)
bymby (by and by) then I will right (write) more
this is rote (wrote) in a hurry this is
all so good night right (write) as
soon as you get these tak (take) good
care of that boy for my sake
