                    Dear Father & Mother

I arrived in camp safe Tuesday
morning, with the exception
of being rather wet as it rained
quite hard & did all day.
I dont like staying here
as well as I did before I went
home. For the Col is more
strict now in regard to passes
He wont sign a pass for only
one out of a Detatchment (detachment) and
then only for two or three hours
We think it is pretty tough
to be so confined And think
we old soldiers might be
more favored as we have had
and will have to work hard
enough to be more at liberty
while we are here. A good many

conscripts have reported here
this week. Four or five companies
of 109 men each, have been sent
to Rackers IslandN.Y (New York) (Rikers Island, New York) . since
I came back and another squad
are going tonight.
I have no news of any
importance to write.
How does the draft prosper
in Oneida Co (Oneida County, New York) Did they resist
in Utica (Utica, New York) . Please send me a
Morning Herald with the list of names
of the drafted men. The substitutes
are trying to desert all the
while. We have a chain gang of
seventeen in the guard house
The weather is very pleasant here
to day (today) though I presume it is
considerable cooler than at
Morris Island (Morris Island, South Carolina) . I send a letter
with this and tell Addie (Pearl, Adaline C.) to
put it in my desk, and not to
read it. No more at
