To Rush P. Cady (Cady, Rush Palmer) , Greeting:
We, reposing especial trust and confidence, as well in your patriotism, conduct and loyalty, as in your integrity and readiness
to do us good and faithful service, by virtue of the power and authority vested in the Governor of our said State, by the laws of the
United States (United States of America) and of the State of NY (New York) (New York) ; Have appointed and constituted, and by these presents Do appoint and constitute
you the said Rush P. Cady (Cady, Rush Palmer (First Lieutenant)) , First Lieutenant in the 97th Regiment (97th New York State Volunteers)
NEW-YORK (New York) (New York) STATE VOLUNTEERS, raised under the authority of the President and Congress of the United States of America (United States of America) , “to aid in enforcing the laws and
protecting public property,” with the rank from Sept 24, 1862. You are, therefore, to observe and follow such orders and directions
as you shall from time to time receive from the President of the United States (United States of America) , the Governor of the State of NY (New York) (New York) , or any
other your Superior Officer, according to the Rules and Discipline of War, and hold the said Office in the manner specified in and
by the Laws of the United States (United States of America) , in pursuance of the trust reposed in you, and for so doing this shall be your COMMISSION.
In Testimony Whereof, We have caused our Seal for Military Commissions to be hereunto affixed.
Witness, HORATIO SEYMOUR (Seymour, Horatio (Governor)) , Governor of our said State, Commander-in-Chief of the Military and Naval Forces
of the same, at our City of Albany (Albany, New York) , the Seventh day of January one thousand eight hundred and sixty three.
