Dear Sir,

Anxious
Brothers and connexions (connections) would
inquire. - and if possible - obtain
information respecting a Mr. Henry (Henry (Mr.))
B. Welton (Welton, B.) , by Profession an Architect,
formerly of Waterbury, Connecticut (Waterbury, Connecticut) ,
but who settled some 8 or 10 years
since in Atlanta, Georgia (Atlanta, Georgia) .
The last that his friends heard of
him, was a short time before
Genl Sherman (Sherman, William T. (General)) took possession of
Atlanta (Atlanta, Georgia) , when the Rebels suspected
him of holding correspondence with
Union Officers & charged him
with secreting escaped union
prisoners. And having arrested

in Macon (Macon, Georgia) . Thither his wife
followed him, with their little
daughter -- but were seldom permitted
to see him.
His brother Robert V. Welton (Welton, Robert V.) , in Connecticut (Connecticut) , has
written to Atlanta (Atlanta, Georgia) & Macon (Macon, Georgia) , but has
received no answer. As a Clergyman
& connexion (connection) of the family & also as connected
with one of the Departments here,he has
applied to me for aid in making further
inquiries. Having made application
at the different offices, the advice
especially at the War Office,
has been, to write to the Commanding
Officers at each of those Stations.
Accordingly, Dear Sir, I address
this to you. Will you be so kind as
to make the inquiries desired concerning said
H. B. Welton (Welton, H.B.) - or Wife - or child - and
if all - or either - may be living - whether
aid can in any way be furnished them
Any information respecting them or either
of them will be most gratefully received by
anxious friends - & any needful expenses
paid Please direct to Washington Internal
[Residence?] Bureau (Washington Internal [Residence?] Bureau)
