Dear Father (Pearl, George A.) & Mother (Pearl, George A. (Mrs., Marcia C.)) (Pearl, Marcia C. (Mrs. George A. Pearl)) ,
I recd your kind & welcome
letter of the 7th last Thursday
I was on
guard acting Corp of
of the second relief. [Horrd]
for the field. Orders came last
for the 117th (117th Regiment, New York) to be ready to start
for
the field tomorrow morning.
We were out out this morning on inspection
with our Knapsacks Haver sacks (haversacks)
canteens and the Capts
had orders to see that
evry (every) man had 40 rounds of
cartriges (cartridges) in ther (their) boxes. I do
not know where we are going
too (to) for certain the Capt thinks
we are going down somewhere
on
the coast. We have not
been payed of (off) yet. Lieut Thomas (Thomas, John F. (Lieutenant))
said the Col (Pease, William R. (Colonel)) was agoing (going) to
Washington (Washington, District of Columbia) to day (today) to see if he
couldnt get the paymaster
to come up and pay us today
He says any way that we
shant leave Washington (Washington, District of Columbia) till
we are payed off. The weather
is very fine here now; it seems
like June up North. Father (Pearl, George A.)
do not try to work when you
are not well. I am sorry to hear
that your health isnt good
My health continues to be good
and so are the boys in our tent
Millington (Millington) is to report to the
Regt tomorrow as the term
of his furlough expires
The dollar you sent came safe
in the letter and wish Tom (Tom)
had brought the tobacco by
writing and letting me
know you had sent some I
could in a day or two have gone
and got it. I havnt (haven't) news
enough to fill this sheet this
time so I think I will close
Direct always to Washington (Washington, District of Columbia)
in care of Capt Clark (Clark (Captain)) or
Co. F (Company F). either will do. Write soon To Mr G A & Mrs M C. Pearl (Pearl, George A.) (Pearl, George A. (Mrs., Marcia C.)) (Pearl, Marcia C. (Mrs. George A. Pearl))
From your Son G. W. Pearl (Pearl, George W.) P.S.
Give my love to all
enquirers and save a good
share for yourselves
