Feb. 10th 1865 My Dear Father (Welch, Luther) .

Once more I seat
myself to write to you, hoping this
may find you all in the enjoyment
of good health. I never was in better
health than I am this evening.
This has been most a splendid day
warm and pleasant. I have been
in the saddle nearly all day and
have passed the day very pleasantly.
you know that I alway's did like to
ride a horse. I have plenty of riding
to do this winter, but I enjoy it well,
although I have to take a ride now
and then that I do not like so well,
yet I get along very well,
I am in the office of Major Brinton (Brinton (Major))
who is Medical Director. its the same
building that I have been in all the
while, but another office. there is fourteen
clerk's and orderlie's on duty connected with
this office, some good fellow's as ever lived
and some the other way, but taken all
together we make out to be a pretty

best of all thing's as they turn up.
I received your letter three or four day's
ago but as I had just written to John (Welch, John)
I thought I would wait a while before
answering your's, all the new's we get
is good this war I think is fast
approaching its end, can't say that I
think much of the Blair (Blair) mission,
there has got to be one or two more
hard battles fought then they are
coming to term's, there has been a good
deal of talk here lately about the
amendment of the constitution
abolishing slavery, well I go for
doing away with slavery for I think
it caused this war, but as for the
negro I cant say that I have a very
high oppinion (opinion) of them, I have seen
to (too) many of them since I have been
in the service,I can think of nothing
to write that will be interesting to you
so I will close hoping to hear from you
soon my regards to all
