I thout (thought) I would
write a few lines to you to let
you know that I am a
live and
well and hope this will find
you the same I have not got
to my regt yet I got hear (here) this
morning and we will go to the
regt in the morning we
are at
army head quarters they are a
fiting (fighting) every day and I will hafter (have to)
go in a soon as I get to the
regt but I hope I will come
out
all right but their (there) is some hard
fiting (fighting) to be done hear (here) yet
we are within 9 miles
of
richmond (Richmond,
Virginia)
and I think befour (before)
a nother (another) Sunday we will be
closter (closer) than we are now we have
a very large army hear (here) now
we had to march five days befour (before)
we got hear (here) do you hear enny (any)
thing from charles (Stannard, Charles) I have not
heard enny (any) thing new from
him sins (since) I wrote you last
but as soon as I get to my
regt I will try and find out
whare (where) he is if I can now alma (Stannard, Alma C. (Mrs. Dwight W. Stannard))
if you new (knew) how bad I hated to
go intow (into) this fite (fight) I think
you would not rest much
but I dont see as their (there) is enny (any)
site (sight) for a man to get out
but I hope you will not take
things to (too) hard for I may come
home all right but it is a hard
thing to think of but it cant
be helped now as I sit hear (here) a
writing this I can hear the
shell as plain as day so you
can juge (judge) how I feel a bout this
thing just now I would give
most enny (any) thing if I ever had
been home but it cant be helped
now but if I ever get their (there) I
will try and stay their (there) as long
as I live I saw steve ?? ([??], Steve)
this morning he said Ira (Ira) was
all right I cant think of much
to right (write) now you must take
good care of your self and
boy and I will try and do
the same as long as I can
