I have just
come in from picket and as
I have
time I think I will
write a short letter to you!
I am in excelent (excellent) health at
presant (present), and I hope this
may find you and the
family all enjoying
the same
blessing! the boy's are all well
and although since the
late
battle we have made up our
mind's that a three year's job
is
our's yet we are not
depressed in spirits at all,
and we are enjoying
ourselves
as well as can be expected!
we are bound to make the
best of our situation whether
it be good or bad and we
think the prospect is good for
our having employment in
our present line of business
for the period of three year's
from our starting points
and if we get home then
or sooner we shall call it
our good luck! and you
may well believe that we
shall be well satisfied with
either! everything is quiet
around camp and we are lying
about in the shade trying to keep
from being roasted by the
hot sun! a party of about
twenty of us had a chase
after a party of bush
whackers the other day we
followed two miles beyond
our pcket (picket) line but did
not succeed in getting
a shot at any of them!
Larmon (Larmon) is with us again
he is not wounded but
is all right a piece of
shell struck him in the
side but only knocked him
down he was taken
prisoner and now on
parole! he say's that the
rebs were very kind to
our wounded and took
all the care of them they
could! I wrote to you
about some money that
you can get at Mr. Allen (Allen (Mr.)) ’s
it is forty dollars that
is now my due! this is
the third or fourth time
that I have written about
it but I have never heard
anything about it yet please
see if its all right and
let me know! I have
received some papers
from John (John) and some
envelopes tell him to
send a few sheets of
paper in the next one
he sends we have the
best of news from the
Southwest tonight but
I will close by sending
my love to you and
the family good bye
for this time write
