April 13th -65 Dear Father (Welch, Luther) .
I received your kind and
ever welcome letter a short
time since
and will drop a line in answer to
it I also received one
from Mother (Welch, Luther (Mrs.,
Phebe))
about the same time, so that "check"
reached you all right. well that is
good. I don't know what you had
better do with the money, pay my
old debts I guess the first thing,
I
owe Truman (Truman) five dollars
that he
lent me the morning that I got
home on furlough. then I
believe
that I [Jame's] a "pile" for them
sheep, I
don't know that I owe any
body else anything in the money line,
but
arrange that matter to suit your
selfe (self), I am "not particular" as the fellow
said, I am in good health
and at the
same old place yet, last evening I
received a letter from
Philo (Philo) he
is
not very well but seems to be in
good spirits, he think's he can
stand it
four months longer, at which time
he proposes to meet me in old
Hebron (North Hebron, Washington County, New York) . I say "agreed" and then
at that time nervous people must
not get about us. no not a bit of it,
I am feeling firstrate as you will
see by this. but time is moving
slow slow indeed, Richmond (Richmond, Virginia)
and Lee (Lee, Robert E. (General)) 's army have gone up
and I am in hopes that a few of
the boy's in "blue" will soon
not be wanted any more, hoping
this may find you all in good
health I will close my regards
to all write soon and oblige Henry (Welch, Henry)
