Dear Sir
I read your very kind
letter some time since but partly for want
of
time and partly through carelessness I
did not answer it as soon as I
should
have done. Our little family are well.
The friends &
relatives are also well so far
as I know. We have been having a
[----a---ably?]
dry summer the dryest we
have had for many years and I
think
the dryest I ever saw: but notwithstanding
the crops are
remarkably good. Farmers
are cutting Rye & Fall wheat and the
chop
of Fall wheat & Rye is the best we ever
have had in Iowa (Iowa)
. Corn is
looking
well. Spring wheat & oats are short but
quite good.
