Oct 12th/64 Md (Maryland) (Maryland) Dear Parents.

I recd yours

but have delayed writing
because I have not been

sick. But I am better and
gaining slowly. I was flat
on my back two weeks
with the Billious (bilious) fever
head ache &c The sickness
run me down considerable

I understood that 5000 more
were expected here. Father
thinks about the same of
E H C (C., E.H.) . that I do. Seems to
me it would be better for
Grandpa's folks to stay
where they are than for
them to go to Earlville (Earlville, New York) to
live this winter. No, I
would not like McClellan (McClellan, George Brinton (General))
for President. Because he
accepted the nomination
of the Chicago (Chicago, Illinois) platform
And he is'nt near as
popular amongst the Soldiers
as he was before he accepted
that nomination And has
lost a great many of
their votes by it. Give us
Old Abe (Lincoln, Abraham (President of the United States)) yet. If I have the
privilege of voting I shall
vote a straight Republican

ticket. You did not tell
Aunt Janette (Janette (Aunt)) what I said
about her getting spliced
did you? if I had thought
you would have told her
that part, I would have
said married. But I guess
there is no great harm
done. You have not told
me yet whether Father
gets the Hammond Gazette
or not. I should like to
know. I must go to dinner
so I shall have to bring
this to a close. Love to all
Write soon.
