recd a paper from you
this morning, containing
Dear Fathers
Obituary.
It does'nt hardly seem
possible to me - that father
has
gone, never more to
return and that I shall
never again see his face
never again hear his
voice. Oh! I do so much
wish I could have
been
home to see him before
he died and to be there
now to
comfort, you and help
arrange pecuniary matters.
and I hope as it is,
they
may be agreeably arrainged (arranged)

Half past 2 P.M. They are having an auction in
the rear of Wd. A. selling the affects (effects) of soldiers
that have died without being able to give
the
names of their Residence and nearest relative
The proceeds realized from
the sales are appropriated
to the benefit of sick and wounded
soldiers
via the Sanitary Commission (Sanitary
Commission)
I send a letter with this, that I wish to have
put away with the rest of my letters.

months. And Mother, I
want you to have all
matters arrainged (arranged) to

comfort, without any
regard to me. If you

One request I will make,
that, if you still have
Fathers watch, I would
like to have it kept for
me. But for all other
necessary depositions, you
may dispose of, to suit
your own convenience.
The news here by telegraph
is very good.

and captured. Day before
yesterday one hundred
guns salute were fired
on the taking of Richmond (Richmond, Virginia)
And yesterday morning,--
by a general order from
the War Department (United States War Department),--
a salute of one hundred
guns were fired from
Evry (every) Fort and Flotilla in
the United States (United States of America) , on the
capture of Lee (Lee, Robert E. (General)) and 37000
of his army. A dispatch
this morning, from Grant (Grant, Ulysses S. (General))
is, that the country is
full of Rebel straglers (stragglers),
the ground is strewn with
all kinds of munitions
of war, for the Rebels are
throwing away their
arms and Equipments (equipment) and
skedaddleing (skedaddling) for their
homes. And that he ( Grant (Grant, Ulysses S. (General)) )
is closely following them up
and says he will drive
them as far as there is
any need of. And I think
from present appearances
this bloody contest is nearly
at an End, and I hope it
may soon be brought to a
close, and peace and prosperity
once more brood over our
land. Prisioners (Prisoners) are arriveing (arriving)
here by the thousands.
Within the past ten days,
between fifteen and twenty-five
thousand have arrived
here. Most of them are from
Lee (Lee, Robert E. (General)) General Lee's Army, a few hundred
were captured by Sherman (Sherman, William T. (General)) .
My health is usualy (usually) good,
and I hope this may find
yours the same. I send with
this a Photo of a young fellow
here,-- I will let you judge as
to the original. Mother I wish
you and Addie (Pearl, Adaline C.) would send me
your Photographs and also
Fathers if you have one. Those
that I had of Fathers and Addie (Pearl, Adaline C.) s
were lost with my knapsack
while I was at Elmira (Elmira, New York) They were
